Strongly requested by the Chamber of Commerce of Como and by the main bank operating on the territory “Banca Intesa San Paolo”, the network was established on December the 2nd 2013. Its aim is to promote the location of lake Como and to offer to potential clients services typical to Convention Bureaus. The network’s activity is mainly, but not exclusively, addressed to organizers of conferences and social events.
In regards to our objectives, we want to promote the location as opposed to the activities of individual partners, in order to exploit the international notoriety of lake Como, which is still perceived mainly as a holiday destination, rather than a location for conferential tourism or social events. Yet the quality of the venues offered by the network, along with the proximity to the Milan airports, railways and motorways that connect Lombardy to the rest of Europe, are essential features to this clientele target.
The network includes around 20 associates, which represent the following areas within the business:
2 conference venues, which include a congress and exposition centre in Villa Erba, located by the lakeside in an historical building;
16 hotel complexes graded 3, 4 or 5 star luxury; which either face the lake or are located in the Como city centre, both close to Villa Erba;
2 transport companies for transfers by bus or car;
2 different destination management company (DMC) agencies for the organisation and coordination of the activities related to the congress or event;
2 businesses specialized in technical and floral arrangements;
the theatre “Teatro Sociale” in Como, a beautiful historical building that dates back to the beginning of the 19th century.
This list shows that our network is able to offer to professional conference organizers (PCO) or specialized agencies a complete support during all the phases of the event; and is able to face, along with the technical aspects of organisation, also the touristic ones offered by the location of lake Como.
As I outlined before, the activity of the network can be associated to the one of a Convention Bureau. Though the associated DMCs, the network offers at no intermediate cost for the PCO the resources and competences that operate on the territory; therefore, from the arrival of the participants to their departure, we take care of both technical and entertainment aspects, during and after the event. This service, offered through specialized providers, allows the PCO to have fast, clear and complete answers, also in regards to the costs. For example, the congress centre of Villa Erba can host events up to 1500 participants, which for their overnight accommodation will be placed by our DMCs at different hotels, according to the requests and budget of the PCO.We would like to stress that many of these hotels face lake Como, allowing the alternative of a drive on the road or a ferry ride on a public boat, for a short yet pictoresque trip.
Lake Como is an international destination, therefore our network’s marketing activity is developed largely towards international markets, especially in Europe. Recently, we have registered a strong interest on behalf of agencies specialised in Indian or Arab Emirate weddings. The lake, as the facilities gathered by the network, offer unique possibilities for events that involve hundreds of people for several days; allowing to complete the central phase of the wedding ceremony with daytime and nighttime entertainment. For the congress area, we host every year at Villa Erba many international European events, and sometimes intercontinental too.
